Christmas and New Year’s Eve 2016-2017 in Sitges

The Christmas Spirit arrives in the town from the 5th of December and lasts right through until the 5th of January.

The 6th and 8th of January are bank holidays in Spain and may people take the days in-between off as well, making it one of the busiest getaways of the winter season. Sitges has some tourists but most of the Spanish gay guys head to Madrid for the Mad Bear Festival.

And Speaking of Bears, Bears Bar will be hosting a special giveaway on New Years Even. Everyone in the bar will be entered into a draw for at trip for two to the Maspalomas Bear Carnival!

Many of the bars and restaurants are open for the run up to Christmas. Christmas Eve in Sitges is where many bars will close early and people head home for a late evening dinner. Parrots Pub, Privilege and many other bars will be open throughout the Christmas Period.

Christmas Day and New Years Eve tends to be a glamorous affair with people dressing up for dinner. L’Angle, Le Patio and Yummy will all host special parties with delicious seasonal menus.

El Sunset de Sitges will be hosting a very special New Years Eve Show and Dinner Spectacular.

For those not in the mood for a sit down meal head to Parrots Pub from 9pm and enjoy a unique countdown to 2017, complete with complimentary Cava, Drag Shows and of course the 12 Grapes of Luck. The Gapes of Luck are a Spanish tradition. For each bell that tolls to 2017, you eat a grape (12 in total) and the following year will bring you all that you deserve! Its fun, but not easy!

Tourism Sitges has been trying to grow the Christmas season in Sitges over the past 12 months. There is a “Patchwork” Christmas fair on the beach from the 2nd to the 4th of December, a slow foods festival on the 10th and 11th of December. The Winter Market Sitges takes place on the 16, 17 and 18 of December with photography, food, clothing, jewelry, personalized gifts, decoration and creative pastries on offer with the common link that everything must be made by hand.

All of these activities take place in a large marquee on the beach in front of the church.

Sitges is a popular Seasonal Escape. Some of the larger hotels remain closed. While rates remain low when comped to the Summer Season, hotel rooms still fill up fast so you should check for the best deals early!
