Sant Jordi in Sitges…

Sant Jordi Sitges

Bienvenidos, young lovers, wherever you are! Take your amor to Sitges this week to celebrate La Diada de Sant Jordi! Saint George or Sant Jordi in Catalan, was a romantic and chivalrous guy at heart who inspired Barcelona in seeing this day as the most giddy and amorous day of the year. He also happens to be the patron saint of the six million inhabitants of Catalonia.

Known as “The Day of Lovers,” La Diada de Sant Jordi is often compared to Valentine’s Day, but with some uniquely Latin twists. The main event is the exchange of gifts between sweethearts — men give their novias roses, and women give their novios a book to celebrate the occasion. Gay boys and girls… I guess you can decide! Oh and its also a day off for us here on the 23rd.. so the bars will be busy the night before!

Top activities and tours from Sitges…

Port Aventura

It appears that everyone is in Holiday Planning Mode for 2010. After looking at our stats for tours for 2009, Port Aventura definitely comes out on top! Its an amazing park with amazing water rides and shows and its a great way to spend the day with a group of friends. Be warned though… bring lots of sunscreen!

The park has plenty of spine-tingling rides and other attractions, such as the Temple del Foc (Temple of Fire) and Hurakan Condor (at 100 meters, one of the highest amusement park rides in Europe). The park is spread across themed areas ranging from the Wild West to Polynesia.

This is one of the most popular trips for visitors from our Barcelona Guide who want to see what Sitges is like and to take in the Torres Vineyard and the spectacular views at Monserrat. A definite must if you want to get a taste of what the area has to offer in terms of culture, gastronomy and scenery.

Finally, it appears that food is never far from your mind. And in this region you simply can not be forgiven for not trying some Tapas. The range of food on offer is sublime and the restaurants dotted around Barcelona are some of the best! The night tour of Barcelona’s Tapas bars is probably one of the most enjoyable tours available.

You get to meet interesting people in a relaxed atmosphere, all while sampling the best beers, cavas and food the city has to offer! Highly recommended!

Axel Hotel, Barcelona

Finally, most of the tours leave from Barcelona. Many people who visit tend to combine the city with Sitges in some form or other. Our advice is to use Sitges as your main base and take the train to Barcelona and if you do want to stay over, book a night or two in one of the many hotels in the city. Our favourite has to be the Axel Hotel, the first “Hetro-Friendly” hotel in the world. Its cool, chic and definitely the place to be seen when in the city. Get the best rates by booking here.
