Open Guide Group is a new tour company in Sitges set up by Rob and Antonio offering bespoke tours from Sitges! We went on one of their tours on Wednesday to experience first-hand, just why everyone who uses them has been giving them rave reviews.
First of all, the great thing about Open Guide Tours is that the tours leave from Sitges. So no going all the way into Barcelona to come all the way back to the Penedes Region, the wine-growing region of Spain, just 20 minutes from Sitges and the area responsible for most of the Cava produced in Spain.
The tours can be arranged to suit your group, from 2 people to larger groups. So there’s no big bus to catch, and no 7am wake-up call! You can decide when to travel and where, (with insider hints and tips from your guides). Open Guide Group operates a fleet of brand new people-carriers. Its more like being in a first-class cabin than a car!
The Penedes region is truly spectacular and if you are in Sitges for a week, then its worth getting your butt off the beach and experiencing another side of life in the area! Open Guide Group has decided to work with boutique Cava producers who offer a truly authentic experience.
Our first stop was to Pages Entrena, a third-generation wine-farm. Our host, the extremely knowledgeable owner, explained to us the process by which Cava is made and then took us on a tour of the cellars.
Then, we visited the horse stables where you can go riding through the vineyards and take in the stunning views of the mountains and the surrounding countryside. We were then treated to a feast of Catalan foods and of course delicious Cava. We firmly recommend their 5 year Gran Reserva!
Our next stop was to Pere Ventura, which was on a completely different scale to Pages y Enterna, Pere Ventura, although less than 20 years old, has established itself as one of the premium Cava producers in the region. You are taken on a tour of their impressive cellars (over 1km in length) and given a rare insight into the background of the Ventura family. The grounds and reception centre are stunning!
Then it was back to Sitges, where we were dropped off in the centre of town. Open Guide Group offer tours of the wine region, day trips to Montserrat as well as trips to unexplored Barcelona, on a daily basis. They really know the service industry and offer a refreshing approach to taking a tour! Highly recommended. Check out their website here.
