It appears that everyone is in Holiday Planning Mode for 2010. After looking at our stats for tours for 2009, Port Aventura definitely comes out on top! Its an amazing park with amazing water rides and shows and its a great way to spend the day with a group of friends. Be warned though… bring lots of sunscreen!

Second on our top 5, is the day trip to Sitges and Monserrat. This is one of the most popular trips for visitors from our Barcelona Guide who want to see what Sitges is like and to take in the Torres Vineyard and the spectacular views at Monserrat. Finally, most of the tours leave from Barcelona. Many people who visit tend to combine the city with Sitges in some form or other. Our advice is to use Sitges as your main base and take the train to Barcelona and if you do want to stay over, book a night or two in one of the many hotels in the city. The wine festival takes place every September and is sponsored by Torres one of the most famous vineyards in Spain.

There is also an international food fair with plenty of advice on what wine goes with what food!

Produce ranges from delicious chocolates to local cheeses..

Competition amongst the teams for the barrel rolling and grape trashing is fierce!

The festival is now over 4 decades old and celebrates the culmination of the wine crop for each year.

The Wine Festivals may be well and truly over, but that's no excuse not to go exploring the Torres Vineyard. Most people who come to Sitges combine this visit with a trip to Montserrat.

The Torres Vineyard

Even for non-wine drinkers a visit to the Torres Winery is truly facinating. You can see the arrival of the grapes, the fermentation process and visit the ample underground cellars. You will be able to walk amongst the casks and smell the wine whilst it ages and understand the secrets of of the Torres process.

The tour lasts approximately one hour and at the end their is an opporrunity to sample some of the delicious range of aperitifs.

Once you have finished your tour, make sure you take a stroll through the grounds as they are truly magnificent.

A visit to Montserrat

site of a Benedictine abbey, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth. So for all those Da Vinci Code Fans.. its a must.

The name “Montserrat” literally means “jagged mountain” and is used because of the peculiar aspect of the edifice, which is visible from a great distance.

The abbey can be reached by road, by cable car, or by the Montserrat Rack Railway from Monistrol in the valley below, which in turn can be reached by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya train from Barcelona's Plaça d'Espanya station.
